Before and After: the Banister

Remember my Plain Jane, boring oak banister?

It has gone bye-bye.

Behold the new banister:

And another angle:

I am so in love with it. When I squint my eyes and only look at the portion of the floor we have done and the banister--it makes me so excited to get this project done!

Now that the banister is in, we can finally finish the floors. More pictures soon!

  3. I love it! You have great taste! I'm gonna be so jealous of your new redeco'd home.

...At risk of starting another blog battle, did you see the preview for "The Back Up Plan" with J-Lo? The bit with the home birth? My sister and I just looked at each other and thought of your blog.

  4. It looks so great! Did your hubby do that too? If so, can we just borrow him for a few months to do my home improvements?

  9. How hard was it to change banisters? Mine is so incredible loose and awful, but we haven't got a clue how to get it off or tighten it.

  11. The paint color is 9 yrs old Sheryl. It is called Beach Basket from Kwal Howell. I would love to paint my walls but Sam put his foot down there. Maybe next year..

    The floors look great too.

  13. Seriously Sam? You'll rip up all the floors, tear the kitchen to pieces, but won't paint? I think painting is the easiest part. But I'm not volunteering... ;)

  15. Could not be more jealous...and I don't even have a banister. If Bill can get a job soon, I'm taking the leftover severance and gutting my kitchen!

  18. Please tell Sam to tell Jason that it hasn't been that bad. I am dying to do a little surgery on my kitchen too. I think jason would rather spend the money on a different kind of surgery.

  22. It is amazing how such a small change can make a huge difference. That first banister depressed me. I hate that kind of wood. But the second one with that new floor (which looks amazing) made it look like a model home that I would want to move into. I am so glad fo ryou that you get to live in a cute house!

  26. Love, love the banister. That's exactly what I want to do with mine. Mine has white spindles and oak railing. I want to paint the oak railing shiny black like that. Corbin is skeptical. Now I can show him what it would look like and maybe he'll get on board and we can add it to the neverending list we have for the house! Congrats!

  27. Ohhhhh that is so beautiful it made me a little...ok a lot...jealous. You guys are really going for it! That's awesome. I tell Scott all the time this new house, living off the grid thing is taking the place of any sort of mid-life crisis that may have been looming. And focusing on home improvement is just healthier than most mid-life crisis alternatives. Can't wait to see more!!
