I Have a New Lease on Life

Ryan looking dapper in his new doggie sweater

Dear 12:30 church,

I love you, love you, love you. I know everyone is complaining about you and I know it means no nap for Ryan every Sunday for the rest of the year but you have changed my life. No more getting up early, no more scrambling to get three kids and myself bathed and out the door by 9:00 a.m., no more interminable Sunday afternoons. Now, let's talk about what we can do about the middle hour.

Sincerely,

Brooke

I totally disagree....we just went from 9:00 to 11:00 and it's bugging me. Lunch is an issue, naps thrown off, no relaxing mommy time while I make the kids watch a movie....arghh. Plus now my husband gets home about 6:00 instead of 4:00.

We just moved to the 9:00. While it's hard to get up early, it's so great getting home at lunchtime. I loved our 11:30 time though--it was great to sleep in, leisurely get ready and then go to church. Paul has a theory that eventually the middle hour will be gone, no more sunday school.

You're crazy. We just moved to 9:00 church and it's the greatest gift ever. Home by 12:00. Lunch and dinner? SUNDAY NAPS!!! Hello?! I can't believe we're even having this discussion.

I totally agree. 12:30 church is the BEST...although our new stake does Sac. Meeting last which is a bummer. You should always have the more active hours last.

S.S. was SOOOOOO good in Scotland. I never missed a week of it...so I come back home feeling like I've grown and matured into appreciating it, but the first week in new ward was TERRIBLE. We should start a petition to get it removed. :)

Plus, if you have 9:00 church you have to MAKE and CLEAN UP lunch and dinner. With 12:30 church you eat lots of cereal and toast, throw something in the crock pot, take snacks to church, come home and eat ONE hearty meal, and you're off the hook from cooking for the rest of the day.

That is unless you decide to make treats.

I hate 9 am church, too. We just switched from 2:30 to 11. It is better, but I actually did not mind 2:30.

I have teh same crib sheets.

I totally agree, I love late church! We just moved to 2:00 from 11:30 yesterday.

I love being able to sleep in and have a leisurely morning of hanging out and getting ready without rushing around, and I love how the whole day is more church-focused (we don't watch TV before church so there's no football or kid shows going on).

Dino looks scrumptious in his new outfit!!!

I am torn about the new time. (We just moved from 9 to 1.) I know it will be miserable for Max's nap but I did like that the day went by faster. (I often feel cooped up on Sundays.) Plus Lu's point about the cooking was totally true. I did a crock pot roast and your freezer mashed potatoes last night and it was delish.

All I have to say is AMEN! On all accounts! Can't they make Sam the gospel doctrine teacher... I think he would be a riot!

Dear this post,
My sentiments exactly. We went from 9am church to 1pm. I love being able to relax in the morning rather than bark at everyone to hurry up.
Sincerely,
Amy

I have mixed feelings on the 12:30 church. Since Jacob did decide to take a nap at the end of Sacrament meeting and slept through SS (according to Jason) he was still OK for the rest of the day.

I TOTALLY agree with Lindsay on the meal issue. 9 a.m. church there is lunch AND dinner to think about. I LOVE only having to think about dinner with the 12:30 church.

I found your blog through Denae Harlows and let me just say I love it! I have to tell you though that I love that we switched to 9:00 this year. We had been going from 3:00 to 6:00. It was horrible!!!!! I taught primary and they all hated that it was dark when we started our lesson. I have newborn twins and they were awful. Yesterday they slept a little and we were home in time for lunch and we took naps too. I loved it. The sleeping in is nice though. It was kind of a shock to the system to get up and out so early.
p.s. can't wait for your bachelor posts.

I hate 1 pm church. There goes my Sunday afternoon nap...Well, my Sunday afternoon nap at home on the couch.

That cracked me up! I would hate 12:30 church because it would SO interupt my day - however I totally see the positive side in your post!

I like a happy medium. Give me 10 or 11 AM church. A night owl like me can sleep in, but I can still slip in a nap in the afternoon. We just switched to 9, though. 9! So un-Christian. With no kids, I can only feel sympathy about the meals, entertainment and naps, but I think later church is just a sensible thing all around.

Plus, when you have early morning church, leaders think it's ok to plan tons of meetings afterwards. When you have PM church, you have the excuse that "it's too late and I haven't had any time with the family..." It's sounds bad, but you understand me.

Sorry! It says Chuche, but it's really Em.

Your church goes for 3 hours? Wow in my religion (I'm catholic - can we still be friends?) the Masses are getting shorter and shorter... you guys must be much more devout than us.

We just started 9:00 church on Sunday. Of course I was late and walked in during the opening hymn, without my husband, 5 kids in tow. No big deal. I'm late no matter what time it starts.

BUT the Bishop started off his testimony calling me out on it, telling the whole ward that he was watching to see who would get to church 1st, me or his wife. Obviously his wife did and he was quite proud...

I think 10:00 would be the perfect time. Why can't we start then?

Dear Church,

I think addressing this "middle hour" is a good idea. Let's cut down each class by 20 minutes and only have 2 hour church.

Or become Catholic--yay! Christmas and Easter...and then nap all day Sunday!

PS..I went to a Catholic school, so I'm totally allowed to crack these jokes.
