Kansas City Crack Whore Feet

Sam always hated my feet.  He told me I had the feet of a Kansas City crack whore.  Right now, I look like I've been walking barefoot down Hollywood Blvd turning tricks for a dimebag of hash.  I have a big crack on each of my heels. They hurt so bad I can barely walk right now.  Yes, I could start wearing sneakers with socks but we all know I will never do that.  It is summer for crying out loud.  And I am vain.

So I've been complaining to everyone I know about my heels and the consensus is--I need to slather aquaphore or Country Care on my heels, put on a pair of socks, and go to bed.  Is there anything else I should be doing?  Does anyone have an awesome cure for summer feet?  And just for the record, I get pedicures regularly.  But that doesn't help the cracked heels problem.  Talk to me people!  These feet are the goal:

Hahaha. Whenever I hear the words Kansas City, I think of Sam and your cracked out feet.

Yes to the Aquaphor--I put that on EVERYTHING! I even had someone ask me if I worked for the company because I was always talking it up, and handing out little tubes.

Have someone you know with a cosmetology license go to a supply store and buy the industrial grade callus remover. Put it on every night (or maybe every other night) in the bath, let it sit for about three minutes, then buff your heals with a pumice stone (before rinsing the remover off). Rinse, then dry them off and use one of those pedi eggs on them.

Then do the aquaphor sock routine.

My feet do the same thing every summer (and sometimes my fingers in the winter) and the only thing that works for me is liquid bandaid. It's in a little box in the display by the normal bandaids...sometimes you really have to look for it, but it's there. It comes in a little bottle and you apply it like nail polish. For me, once my heels have cracked, no amount of lotion or aquaphor works. But the liquid bandaid seals up the crack and takes away the pain. Good luck!

I was planning on delurking with some witty comment someday, but I couldn't pass this up. My husband gets painful cracked feet and we tried everything, including all the heavy duty lotions, then his dermatologist recommended kerasal and it has worked great. You can find it at most stores near the feet section. I even use it for rough patches once in awhile. Just reread my comment and I sound like an ad!
I have read your blog from day one and love it! I followed over from Ashley, your blogs are my favorite. You are hilarious and so classy and absolutely gorgeous. I also really appreciate your insights and honesty. I was in London last time you were out, but I have every intention of crashing next time you do dinner with the Mostess and Ashley:) Hope you find something that works!

These are the same gnarly, ice-cube feet you wanted to rub on me in Phoenix.

I agree with LKC - you may need liquid bandaid, or even nail glue or super glue! You glue them back together, then keep the aquaphor coming! I also bandage the cracks during the day with neosporin. Dr. (woundcare) Maria (Omer) said that wounds need to be kept moist to heal faster.

I know I rarely comment...but regularly stalk your blog :)

So I used to have an issue with cracked heels and feet. I started getting my feet zoned semi-regularly, and was told the cracked heels had nothing to do with flip flops or summer or shoes or anything external, but that it was a sign of an internal issue. Literally in about a month's time, my feet were as smooth and soft as a baby's little bum. I know it sounds odd, and I know some people don't believe in the whole foot zoning idea, but it really worked for me! They still sometimes get a little dry, but no more ugly, painful cracks! If you want to give it a try and don't know anyone, I have a couple friends I could refer you to...

O'keeffe's healthy feed is the only thing I have found that will work. I use the ped egg first and then lather up with O'keeffe's. I don't even put on socks. It is magical.

One more thing. . ."aquaphore" may rhyme with "whore," but it is spelled, "aquaphor."

Funny what brings people out of hiding to comment.

I love the purple man-made pumice by Mr. Pumice you can buy at Sally's Beauty Supply for $4. I use a little shower gel on the pumice (it helps get the old skin off) and at first scrubbed the cracks. After a few days, my feet were completely presentable. A quick pass over every other day and my feet haven't snagged the sheets yet this summer. A first.

I'm a stylist too and so far this is the best (easiest, lowest maintenance) thing I've found.

I love your mom's comment latest comment! Amen to proper spelling!

I don't know how Mostess affords to hand out little tubes of Aquaphor--that crap's expensive! Mostess, teach me about the wonders of Aquaphor and send me some please!
It really is the greatest though!

Good luck in your quest, Brooke!

Kimber gets cracked feet in the summer and has been putting oil on them which has worked like a charm. Aquaphor hasn't worked for him. If it gets bad, he has used blister bandaids. But seriously I don't think he's had to use the bandaids since he started with the oil.

Reading through these comments, I'm going to have him try these other suggestions, too. I feel for you... that hurts!!

The best thing I have found is called Feels like new foot softener - I think you get it at Sally's but mine was a gift. It only took a few days of applying at night to heal my deep cracks... I now just maintain it with Gold Bond ultimate healing every morning and night and use the feel like new only about once a month. My heels have never looked better. :)

A little tool called Micro-pedi by Emjoi. You can get it at Sally beauty supply or amazon. I got one as a gift and it gently buffs my "hooves". That's what my husband calls my heels. My heels have never been better!
