The Most Wondeful Time of the Year

No, it's not Christmas yet--it's back to school! When I was a kid I loved Back to School time. I got to go pick out a trapper keeper, a new Esprit bag in a fun color and of course, shop for new school clothes, especially at the Nordstrom sale. But I also LOVED shopping for school supplies. I still do. I have been asking Luke for weeks if he wanted to go get his school supplies and he couldn't have cared less--boys! Finally, I dragged him to Walmart today and we loaded up. Brand new crayons, markers, paints, glue sticks, sharpies, folders, pencil box and more--all at great prices.

Not my stuff, though I wish it was.

And you know the best part of back to school is that the kids actually go BACK to SCHOOL! Luke is going to be gone all day! And Sammie will be gone three afternoons a week leaving me with exactly 7.5 hours a week with just Ryan who hopefully will be napping. I'm so excited I can barely sleep.

Ah, yes, the Trapper Keeper. Each year started with a new promise to *really* keep my papers in order, and my items nice and new. Everything was shot to hell in 2 weeks--moldy sandwich in bottom of backpack, squished/torn paper all over, broken crayons, and dried glue stick. I wish I had learned my lesson back then, but a quick look in my purse and you will see a similar scene. I'm a disgrace.

PS-I'm sure we rocked the same Esprit bag and Benetton clothing in our youth. Don't forget Lisa Frank stickers. Mmm...scratch and sniff.

I remember not being able to sleep the night before school started. I remember those HUGE Esprit bags, those were deadly weapons!

Did you really buy all those school supplies? WOW!

Back to school hasn't changed that much over the years. I remember the same excitement - new clothes, etc. However, we had satchels and they had very little in them. My school always provided supplies.
Novel idea, huh?????

I have been checking ebay daily trying to find an old Esprit bag for Maddy to use for school- anyone ... anyone??

Aaron and I were just having this conversation last night- he HATED going back to school, and I LOVED it- it was social time for 6 straight hours! Plus all of the note writing, and seeing your cute boy crush right after French class.
Gosh, those were fun times.

But seriously, if anyone still has their Esprit bag, I will pay top dollar for it.

Back to school is one of my love hate relationships. I missed buying supplies so much last year that I bought them anyway and looked for kids who would use them. Today I picked up crayons, markers, etc... and sadly put them down.

I hated to see my kids go back to school. They each did so many little chores which were such a help. When they went back to school I was left with all the morning chores! LOL Not to mention that I really did miss them. I love/loved my house bursting with energy and lots of kids.

No Lisa, that was a random picture I pulled off the web. I did buy a lot--because I love to have new stuff at home as well..but I'm not that bad!

Mandee,

I just spent the last hour trolling the net trying to find you a vintage Esprit bag. I couldn't find any. I will continue to bird dog it for you.

I was always so excited before school too. Occasionally, I still get a memory whiff of the Canyon View back to school smell. You know that smell? What's the "Esprit bag" for kids these days?

You are going to LA LA LOVE it. I love my kids to pieces, but it sure is nice to be alone while they're all in school.

I totally agree with you about this being the best time of the year! I still love school supplies too and get so excited when we get to go stock up again. There is just nothing else quite like a new box of crayons!

Hooray for your upcoming 7.5 hours of freedom!

I just picked up some Girbaud jeans, a couple rugby shirts, and a plethora of T&C surf t-shirts.

The women in Ms. Potter's french class are going to swoon...

I almost did this same post. The back to school aisle at Walmart makes my mouth water. Crayons for .25, Crayola markers for $1. Like the good old days making the haj to Fred Meyer for $.13 spiral notebooks in teal, purple, and pink.

Don't wish them away too soon. Once they hit Middle School it is down hill all the way. I totally miss the days of having little kids in the house, and hated it (truly hated it), when they went back to school..in fact I still hate it. They grow up sooo fast, enjoy the quiet times, but also enjoy them all you can while they are little. I really would love to do it all again...my babies are getting too old! Makes me sad!!:(
