The Winter of my Discontent

I'm not a "winter." When I was about 8 years old my aunt put a bunch of color swatches up to my freckled face and declared me a "fall." I was told to only wear fall earth colors. I don't obey that, though I do love fall. One thing is for sure, I hate winter. This has been the worst winter of my life. I know that's a bold statement but I'm standing by it.

I was hugely pregnant last year, totally uncomfortable and yet, that winter wasn't as bad as this one. I can't figure out what it is. Yes, I hate the cold, Yes, I hate the inversion, Yes my entire family has been sick since Christmas. Yes, Sam has been in trial for the last month and basically I've been a single parent, Yes, my mom (and biggest helper) has been in Hawaii for the entire month of February, Yes, I haven't been able to work out in over a month. All of these things, along with a few others I don't care to blog about, have conspired against me.

This weekend, I was done hating my life. I decided to bust out the spring clothes and flats.

I engaged in some retail therapy and bought nice jeans and this darling red and white polka dot quilt to use as a tablecloth. It has scalloped edges and goes with my polka dot dishes.

I went jogging outside to get some vitamin D in my system, I upped my intake of diet coke just to be safe. I even started reading my scriptures again. Nothing is working. I'm still dragging.

Then it hit me. It's this little angel.

That same baby I blogged about a last month telling you how cute he is. He is making me crazy. He doesn't nap. He's teething. I'm weaning him and he's ticked off. He complains constantly. He wants me to carry his sorry 25 lb arse around all day. I'm considering putting him on Craig's list but I know the authorties would hunt me down. So if anyone wants to "babysit" wink wink a "sweet," chubby, almost 1 year old let me know.

I was there 2 weeks ago. I am better now. Bring him to my house. For reals.

sorry to say but the day may come when this seems easy, enjoy it! :)

I love the table cloth/quilt/dishes! you should grab some fun white napkins or placemats to put under the dishes and really pop out the red square dishes. Also keep you quilt nicer longer.

I think you look so great in black and pink and red...you are not a fall. I bet you are a spring or a winter. I was told to just change my make up and it wont matter! Makes sense to me.

Where was the frozen bench from? SLC? I just forget there is winter out there. Hop in the car, come south and I will babysit while you enjoy some clean fresh air.

Haha. I always think of Reality Bites when I hear "winter of my discontent." I can't be the only one, right??

Your reality also bites. I don't want that kid. Not even to babysit.

He is cute, though. But not THAT cute!! ;)

You are so not alone.. we have all been there. Sounds like you really need a break though. If I could go back to when my boys were that little I would tell myself "take more time for you". So I'm telling you find a way to take care of you!

Jeans and Flats = Fabulous.
Red tablecloth = Divine.
Crying, clingy children = overrated.

At least spring is right around the corner. Maybe we can start willing it here by breaking out our spring clothes!

The Mostess, You are funny. You made my day. Sheryl--good idea on the placemats. Bonnie--I do need more Me time. I'm taking a day off in March, the entire day--a girlfriend and I are going to lunch, a spa and shopping. It is cheaper than therapy.

I would borrow him anytime! But I feel the same way! Maybe we could trade, a few for a few! This winter has been totally horrible!

Oh! That is so sad! Little Dino is such a sweetheart! I will take him!!! That last picture is so appropriate and sad.

I agree about having a break. That's brutal that he won't nap. I get so frustrated on days when my kids don't nap at the same time so I always have at least one of them in my grill. I think you should hire a babysitter twice a week for 2 hours in the afternoon to go roam the malls by yourself. It might just save you.

Cute tablecloth!

If I lived in SLC, I would take all the kids, and send you away! Spring is just around the corner. It has been a long winter, even for us in SoCAl. The sun is up earlier, and the weather is on the mend. hang in there! Continue with the Vit D and Diet coke, it will all end soon! I love your blog!

I have the solution. Pay someone huge amounts to take on Ryan and Bailey together. They would irritate each other to the point of exhaustion. Bailey has taken a turn, too. She's going through her terrible twos at 11 months. When she doesn't get her way she screams "AHHHHH" and bites the thing or person closest to her. However, being the bright little number that she is, she often offers us a nice, smoochy kiss just prior to her attack....I guess to soften the blow.

This too shall pass! Until then, I like Ashley's idea. Good babysitters should be cannonized. They can literally save lives. The number one thing that young mothers need to know is - NURTURE THE NURTURER!! Go for it!

Those shoes are FABULOUS!

That table cloth is TO DIE FOR!

And that baby is ADORABLE!

I am afraid what my mom said is right on. I remember thinking at the time how awful these "teething" times are and when she doesn't nap or wakes up if you breathe wrong. But now, I will take this over these "full blown fits and tantrums" my dear sweet Bailey is having now. All I can say is that I am screwed...she's a mini me.

I love the tablecloth!!! And the babysitter idea is a great one. Does he do okay with babysitters? Bailey doesn't.

I think babysitting is the answer. I do have several awesome babysitters and I always just use them for dumb stuff like my dr. appts, etc. I am going to get some standing appts every week for babysitting. Sam will just appreciate that I'm not calling him everyday at work complaining about the kids!

I've been thinking of doing an "I Hate Winter" post myself. Seriously, get it over with already.
As for your baby...Three kids is plenty hard with an easy baby. I have had a hard baby before and can't imagine having had him as #3.
Oh and the "single" mom thing, I hear ya! Dreadful.

ok so everything else aside, that top picuter is amazing. I have never seen anything like it. Hang in there though, you know this will all pass with that cute little pumpkin of yours

Are you the funniest person ever. I totally agree with this winter, and the little one is killing me too.

Maybe you need a visit to San Diego. It's suppose to be in the 80's today!

Sorry, that was kinda mean.

I am with you and so ready for spring! When it snowed yesterday morning I seriously cringed.

Brookie....WHY haven't you brought the "damn" kid to my house? You know I'd take him in a heart beat... naughty or nice! Serious!!

Hang in there. Wait till he's a teen. Oh, I'm sorry; I'm sure you didn't want to hear that! :)
