A Little More Spice than Sugar

Sammie is sweet:

1. She makes pictures for me everyday that say "Sammie and Mom are best friends" or "Sammie loves Mom." She won't make a dang thing for Sam.

2. She loves to cuddle. Most nights, she crawls into bed and snuggles up to Sam. He would never allow Luke or Ryan to get out of their beds, but he makes a glaring exception for his "Bammie."

3. She compliments me on my outfit nearly everyday. "Cute top mom!" or "I love your boots." She makes me feel good.

4. She loves to dance. Remember how she used to hate ballet? Now she takes from my cousin Liz and absolutely loves it. It warms my heart.

She is also sassy:

1. This is what she looks like in most pictures. She refuses to smile on cue. This trait alone has dang near killed me. She also picked out this outfit for preschool. I tried to talk her out of the ribbon skirt. No dice. She always gets her way.

2. Remember her comment about parking in expected mother parking? "Don't worry mom, once we get into the mall, no one will know whose car this is!"

3. A few days ago, we were driving and Sammie said to me, "Mom, you know how if you do something wrong and you feel bad about it, you have to repent?" I said yes, silently patting myself on the back for teaching her about repentance. She replied, "If you feel bad, just don't think about it and then you don't have to repent."

4. She can beat the crap out of Luke

5. She already talks like a valley girl. Today she told me she made a friend at the gym. The girl told Sammie that she was 6. Sammie said, "I was like...okay....I'm four but whatever.."

6. She has a penchant for the finer things in life. She loves shopping and bringing me clothes and saying "this is cute." She only eats salmon tacos at Cafe Rio and when she gets to choose where to eat, it is always Kneaders (not McDonald's like her brothers.)

Sammie is so much fun. She adds sparkle to my life. I adore this sassy little thing!

Totally Brookie Jr. and the repent comment is gold. I love her ribbon skirt outfit! I was just adoring some girl clothes at Janie and Jack today. Sammie would have approved. If I don't get a girl next I'm stealing Sammie.

I don't have the vocabulary to adequately capture Sammie's personality: her precocious chattiness, her hair-trigger moodiness, her sweetness, her sassiness, her manipulative ways, her shyness, her mean streak, her bossiness, and her cuteness. She is truly one of a kind.

It is scary that, even though she is only four, I occasionally find myself feeling sorry for her future spouse. He has no idea what he is in for.

Every mom needs a girl....but not two or three. LOL

I have to say, I am jealous of her hair. (Have I said that before?) Well...I AM!

It is a good thing she doesn't smile in photos because she is so dang cute anyway!

Sam - Paul & I used to say the same thing about Brooke - "Heaven help her husband!" and "maybe we should encourage Brookie to get married young . . .about 13 or 14!"

I like a good spice girl. Kinda reminds me of my own.

And you're right - it IS fun to read about other people's kids. Let's do it more! :-)

She is quite spicy--I can even tell that through your blog. Spicy is great--sweet is so over-rated. I like that she's already all Valley Girl.

My friend's kid used the word 'totes' the other day..."we should totes go to the library!" Now I feel guilty.

She is so cute, though I think Jesus wasn't amused about her ideas on repentance.

PS--we were in Utah last week, and I was on the lookout for you. No deal.

I do remember you being a bit of a diva growing up, and look how great you are!

I just love sassy little girls. Probably because I was shy and secretly wished I were sassier.

Brooke--So I saw your post about dance and looked up your cousin. My oldest daughter is turning 3 and loves all things dance and frankly, dance scares the crap out of me! Anyway, I desperate for a good low pressure dance place. I called your cousin and got on her waiting list, but I am dying that she doesn't have any openings. Put in a good word for me if you can! Meanwhile, I am praying someone hurries up and moves!Heidi Grimshaw
