Nesting on Roids

So I still haven't done anything with the baby clothes or crib but I think the house project makes up for it. The wood floors are done and my kitchen has looked like this for the past week:

As a side note, I've always loved the look of open shelving in kitchens in magazines but never could understand how someone could pull it off in real life. My doors have been off the cabinets for weeks and it looks terrible. I know that people with open shelving would only display nice bowls and china but where do they shove the sippy cups and ugly stuff?

Here is my lovely family room area:

This project is almost done. The appliances are coming, the granite is on its way and the cabinets and mantel will be done shortly. I can't wait for the big reveal!

I have the open cabinets and it's tough. My solution for all the sippys, well pretty much everything, is I have a huge pantry that I put everything in. I have to organize it all with baskets in the pantry but it works. As for the open cabinets, I am VERY particular what goes in there and even how it is placed I(handles of mugs all have to line up uniform, etc).

I can't wait to see your kitchen! I also absolutely love the black island.

It's looking great! I love the black bead board island especially! I always think that people who are able to function with open shelving or clear doors can do so because they have plenty of storage space for the ugly stuff. My kitchen is way too small to ever make that work.

It's looking soooo good! I LOVE it so far and I'm sure it's going to get even better.
I agree with the open cabinets. How on earth? I could never pull that off.

Take tons of pics when you have the reveal. I can't wait to see it in person. You're tough to have lived through a renovation, and it will be so worth it.

Wow you did all this whilst pregnant and being the mother to 3 other people??? Well Done You.
The trick to open shelving is don't think it is going to be useful - its a display area only, you need extra storage areas to cope with all the stuff that cant go onto the open shelves.
I do have one lot of open shelves that house all my ugly stuff 'cos my kitchen is so far gone it makes little difference.

I is looking fabulous! You are a trooper. We are in a mess too and I am feeling crazy, tired and lets just say McDonalds for lunch and Training table for dinner is not helping!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love it all, I'm sure it will be worth it. You are a brave woman!

We have open cupboards, and I currently love it. However, I was just thinking how it was going to go from cute and chic to plastic and ghetto with the addition of Zyggi. I may have to re-do my kitchen soon.

Yeah right!

Sorry peeps for the "Back from Disneyland" confusion. That was a two line post saying I just got home and would be posting soon. Then I decided it was lame and took it down. I will post a real "Back from Disneyland post" shortly!
