These Boots Are Made For Walkin'...

The question for you is...should I be walkin' them right back to the store?

Yes, I know there is way too much flash in this picture and I am wearing two different boots. Stay with me. It will all make sense in a minute.

I loooove my tall black boots. I wear them daily.

I have been wanting a pair of grey boots for sometime but I'm not sure these are the ticket. These are Madden Girl and on the cheap side. They are trendy and may only work for this season. They are also really big around the calf. I may be able to live with it because they are comfortable. Be brutally honest. Do I just stick with my black ones or do you like the grey as well? Do I need a different pair of grey ones?

Another photo of them for your consideration:

Or I could buy them in a short version:

And now for the magic pants I have been telling you about. I love leggings. (To me, they are elegant sweats.) I sometimes have tops (like the one pictured above) that cover my bum but just barely. So I wanted some leggings that had pockets and look like skinny jeans. Enter BR's five pocket legging. This picture does not do them justice.

They are thick and a tiny tiny bit looser than leggings. In fact, I plan to wear them with short sweaters as well and dress them up like nice black pants (with a skinny fit.) Give them a try. You can tuck them into boots or wear them with a pump or ankle boot. And Banana is having a 30% off sale on all women's full price apparel through tomorrow night.

Update: I have turned my back on the BR leggings. I can't do dry clean only and I think they may be a tad loose through the knee and calf area. So I now have my sights set on the Gap's version of the same pant. I have a Friends and Family for 40% off at the Gap starting Thursday. Email me if you want in on that.

To my male readers..both of you...stop laughing at me.

Fun running in to you tonight! I saw a girl at the movie today with the cutest boots, tall and grey, and she got them at TARGET last year. She thought they had them again this year, and they're only $50 ish. They were so cute!

Brooke--

I'm not a real big fan of the Madden Girl "Prepie" boot.

On the other hand, as you know, I am a big fan of intuition. And I think that your intuition is telling you to walk those Prepie boots right back to the store.

Here's why:

You say you "Loooove [your] tall ... boots", yet you are going to buy a calf-length boot. Also, you admit that these boots are "cheap", "may only work for this season" (does this mean that they might NOT work for this season?), and are "really big around the calf."

Typically, it's not a good sign when a woman's fashionable footwear requires the use of an adjective like "big." I'm just sayin'...

If you insist on going with a calf-length boot, might I suggest the "Selena" from Volatile...

http://www.zappos.com/volatile-selena-grey

The Selena has a shaft that is a little taller, has heels that are a little higher, is a little skinnier, and is a whole lot sassier.

Plus, if you buy from Zappos you get free shipping both ways (which means you don't have to "walk them back" anywhere if you need to return them or get a different size), great customer service (which you should be able to appreciate), and no sales tax!

You're welcome. :)

Greg...i am speechless.

Just saw that the BR leggings have to be dry cleaned. WHAT??!! Have you washed yours? I can't own weekday wear that I can't wash myself. I can barely handle dry cleaning Sunday attire.

Jen,

I never noticed they have to be dry cleaned. Those puppies may be going back. Anyone know of any awesome black leggings that have pockets and pose as skinny jeans?

I swear, I have been composting a boots post of my own in my head, and yet again you beat me to it.

I think the grey boots look good, and you should keep them if you really want grey boots. But I prefer the black ones (because they are black) so I would always choose the black over grey and thus would have no purpose for them.

Brooke, I actually really like the grey boots! Before I read the post I saw your picture and thought, "ooh cute grey boots!". But I admit, I read greg's comment and have to agree. It's a toughy, but I would say take them back since you have so many reservations and wait for the 'perfect' grey boot to come along. PS in this picture you really look like Gwyneth Paltrow!

Greg - you'd better watch out -- you are going to be named the next Clint on "What Not to Wear!" You sound pretty knowlegable!

Greg,

That was my mom signed in as me...and she is referring to Clinton Kelly.

Target boots for $50?? Where do they get off charging that much for, well, anything??

Greg--um, I am also speechless. In a good way, of course.

I like the grey boots, but you have to love them. If you don't love em, don't keep them.

I hear Pajama Jeans can be washed in your regular washer.

The Mostess said...

Pajama Jeans be damned! It says they are 'machine wash cold', not dry-clean only. I'm going to get a pair when I'm not fat next week! The cute jeans, not the Pajama Jeans.

Holy commenting. Apparently, the website says machine wash, but the tag says dry clean only. I would guess that a cold wash on gentle with Woolite would be fine. I'm still gonna grab a pair!

I have lots of things in my wardrobe that are cheap and should only last a season. Its good fun and staves off the boredom ;-)
For what its worth I really like the grey boots.

Return them - the black are much cuter/sexier. Definitely do NOT get the short boots. Can't stand those things!

Love your leggings though. I got some cute jeggings and some skinny jeans with diamonds on the butt at Macy's for about $40/pair in the Style & Co department.

I'm glad it's not just me with the multiple comments.

Greg, I'm very impressed!

The Style and CO jeggings aren't black, but VERY dark and have pockets and belt loops. They are also higher waisted to hide the muffin top

The DeVito's said...

Ok, I just looked them up online and I SWEAR they aren't as high waisted as they are in the pictures.

Found your blog through my cousin Em at Doin' the Dang Thang! :)

I LOVE the black boots!! The grey ones...meh. Definitely NOT the booties. Gack. Can't stand booties on most people. Stick with the black. :)

I wore my very first pair of leggings to church today under my dress and I love them! Want more!! :) Help?

I would not wear the grey boots. I don't like that squishy look much. I really like your tall black boots. I sort of think that it is better to own a few things you love and wear all the time than many things you feel so-so about and wear infrequently.

All these comments have me totally indecisive about the boots. This is why I hate to shop for myself. I think both pairs are cute, but Greg's argument is quite convincing. I suppose it depends on the money situation. If you can afford a pair of fun grey boots for the season, keep the MGs. But if you can only choose one pair, go with Ashley's advice and stick with the black. Love those! And if you want a grey pair you can truly love plus a good deal, take back the MGs and wait until the end of the season and get a grey pair from Dillards when they are 70% off. My sis could tell you all about that if she'd get up the nerve to comment!

Speaking of comments, I see my cousin Gina commented! Hilarious, that girl is.

Also, I think everything from BR says dry clean only...this is risky, but depending on the fabric, I sometimes just do the hand wash cycle and air dry and my clothes have been fine...

Now I am questioning the grey boots as well. I think they are cute, but i don't know how much you would wear them. I had grey boots last year and didn't wear them a ton. I got some khaki color tall boots this year and love them. You can wear them with anything. They are a fun alternative to black. Sorry not to helpful. It sucks looking for cute boots and cute pants.

I am a Gap Silver cardholder and I didn't see anything for 40% off. I would love it if you sent that to me. You don't know me,but I loooove your blog and feel like I know you. My email address is lauradotbaileyathotmaildotcom
I like the grey boots. I want some myself but can't seem to find the right ones, good luck

You HAVE to keep the boots. I have the SAME pair. I wore them out last year and I just pulled them out for the season and rocked them yesterday. I loved pulling out my gray purse to go with them. I was a bit sad to see that Target is selling an almost identical boot this year. I thought I was original, but not for long.

I adore your shirt in the pic. I need to go shopping with you someday.

I read this post when you first wrote it and have been meaning to come back and tell you I have the pants in a dark wash and I LOVE them. Now I see you have turned your back on them??!?! Why! I love mine so much and am considering getting a black pair as well. Also love BR regular skinny jean. Let us know how the gap ones go! I can't do gap- never fit my body right.
