Jon and Kate Plus 8 Plus the Other Woman

Most of you have seen that US weekly is reporting that Jon of Jon and Kate Plus 8 is having an affair with a 23 year old woman. I know it's true because Us has photos and I believe anything written in People and Us magazines. The Star is another story. Us is always reporting that Kate may be having an affair with her bodyguard.

For those of you who don't have a clue what I'm talking about (like my husband)--Jon and Kate have a reality show on TLC. They have eight children--8 yr old twins and 4 yr old sextuplets. I don't know why this story makes me sad. I've only seen the show a few times. I prefer not to spend my tv time watching the chaos I already have at home. I prefer high society like this. But I digress. It is the same sadness I felt when I heard Nick and Jessica were breaking up. I guess I'm just so tired of seeing Hollywood couples not make it.

Apparently, Jon was going out with his friends and hitting the clubs while Kate was on tour promoting her new book and the show. It makes no sense to me. What is a married man (with 8 kids!) doing going to clubs? Obviously, he is looking for something. I have to wonder though, if they didn't have a show, if they didn't have the huge house TLC bought them, if they were just Jon and Kate living in rural PA with eight kids, would he have done this? I doubt it. I think there is a mentality in Hollywood (and I use the term "Hollywood" in a generic way because it happens anytime someone gets some fame or notoriety) that when a person becomes famous they began to feel entitled and sexy and awesome. Look at the guy? Should he be out having an affair? I don't know if Kate is having an affair or not but give me a break!

Thoughts? Are you people still going to watch the show? Set the DVR, at least we have this to look forward to:

SOOOOOO glad you did this post!! I was wondering what the bodyguard looked like. Does she really need a bodyguard? Fame and fortune are obviously the downfall to their marital troubles. Though I don't blame him for looking for love elsewhere, she was always a whiny #@$&*!

So sad for the cute kids.

It is sad, but my recent beef is how celebs take their marriage problems public, while pretending they are trying to make it work. Like Kate telling people "we may split up" but saying she is going to try to make it work. Or John Edward's wife writing a tell-all book, but then claiming she is also still trying to make it work. I doubt their sincerity to begin with, but if they really are trying to make it work, the first step is to not air their spouse's dirty laundry.

I can't let myself watch the Bachelorette this time. It consumed me last time. We'll see if I can hold out.

I meant Kate said that to People Magazine, not just "people."

I would hope for those kids' sakes that neither of them is having an affair. But you are right - what is he doing going to clubs at all? That is RIDICULOUS.

And, um, speaking of high class t.v., did you catch the Housewives of Jersey the other day? Looks to be very promising. Love me some skanky rich ladies. Makes me feel better to be me.

I just picked up the US with Kate and the bodyguard on front. What's the deal with these two?? I just saw her on Rachel Ray talking about this whole "scandal". She was very aloof!
Not sure about the Bachelorette. Bad taste in my mouth from last time.

I was rabid for information when Nick and Jess went bust. I still don't have a clear answer about that one. All of our friends used to call us "Nick and Jess" as a joke, but then it wasn't funny.

However,as a woman who clubbed all last weekend, I think it comes down to intentions and priorities. Why is he befriending recent college grads, and partying at college bars? Lame-o. Obviously, he had bad intentions, and that's what happened.

Kate is crazy-cakes, though, so I kind of see why he is fleeing her.

Dont even get me started on this. I am running out the door and will be back to post later, but I am addicted to that show, I have seen every episode at least 6 times and it makes me sick. My family always gives me crap about being a "Jon and Kate" groupie..I admit it. I will be back with more thoughts...let's just say I will continue to hold out hope they will make it.

It is too bad that the celeb factor (i shortened that word bc I was unsure of spelling) tends to weaken marriage, when the fact that they were given a beautiful home and they make a lot of money now should have taken a lot of the stress off.

I didn't like that show for several reasons, one being that Kate was a bit shrill and bossy for my tastes. I didn't think that she treated him all that well. Not a defense to adultery, just an observation about the people. He is obviously a loser, too.

Tell Ashley to just give in and watch it- there's nothing else on television, anyway (except for SYTYCD).

Plus, it makes for good conversation over lunch. And above all, that makes it so worth watching.

I'm not a big fan of Jon and Kate- for the reason you gave. Why would I want to watch a bunch of screaming kids when I deal with that all day.

And sarahw is right... she is a total grump, all the time. Which still doesn't justify cheating. But whatever.

You should watch LOST.

Can't wait for the Bach!
I didn't know those rumors were true. Sad. Celebs struggle with marriages. I agree that maybe the fame ruined ol' Jon and Kate.

Oh the shame of it all.. might make for a new spin off TV Reality show about the affairs!

I found myself reading stuff online about Jon and Kate yesterday and then felt like an idiot for doing so. I hope they don't break up.

This has made me sad also. I agree that fame has gone to the head, for both of them. They dress and look like "Hollywood." If you look at thenm when they started (or even a year ago)and look at them now...they have "updated" their looks. But who am I to judge on that. If I was making $75,000 per episode I would probably update also. The sad part is it does change your life when you go so public. Then there is the issue that they are in their early 30's. Even if they have been saving money etc. they almost can't quit the show--how would they be able to keep up the 1.3 million dollar home with no other income. I'm sure Jon did not make that as an IT specailist. Hard, hard, hard. Just glad I'm living in Draper with no cameras. They'd be board stiff anyway filming my life--get up, shower, dress Jacob, feed Jacob, play with Jacob, put Jacob down for a nap, etc. You get the picture. :)

Waiting for the Bachelorette. Should be interesting.

I too am glad you posted this because I wanted to see the bodyguard.

I think the "Hollywood" fame has gotten to Kate too. The picture of here walking through the airport reminds me so much of Victoria Beckham too..especially the scowl, large sunglasses, and hair.

case and point:

I followed you from a comment on Gabi's blog and realized who you are! How fun! I can't wait to catch up on you guys in the blogosphere!

I always wondered how long they would last. Kate is soo mean to John and talks down to him all the time. Although it doesn't warrant an affair, I'm sure he just got fed up!

I have seen bits and pieces of this show--thanks to Sarah--and I am dumber for having seen it. If I were Jon I'd be looking for greener grass as well, but for me the really interesting point that most of your readers are missing, Brooke, is that you don't necessarily disagree with the immorality of their affairs, it's the fact that you believe they aren't good enough to have affairs. Am I right? It's like the time you tried to set up some short, fat, bald schlub co-worker of yours and he didn't feel like the girl was good enough and that just rubbed you the wrong way. Jon and Kate are like the guests at the mutant table in Adam Sandler's Wedding Singer movie who "have nothing to offer the world" and therefore are relegated to sitting with the other castaways and underachieving misfits near the emergency exit.
Survivor is the show to watch.

OK, you've gotten me interested. I have never seen this show but now I have to google it to see what Jon looks like. Thanks for keeping me in the loop of things I should know about.

Hope you are having fun in Hawaii!

ok I was just about to write a similar post b/c for some reason I'm freaking out about this too!!!I don't know why it bothered me so much because I hardly even watch the show, but for the love!!! After all they've been through with the 8 kids, I mean shouldn't he be more of a "family man" when he's surrounded by all that family? It breaks my heart a little for all those kids.
I will stick with my LOST and 24 addictions. I swore I was through after last season's fiasco, but I will probably end up watching Bachelorette but only for Jillian's sake.

O.K. I caved and bought the People issue with her in it. Sounds like they are going to plow ahead with things and try to keep it going. She says that Jon isn't happy with his life, she has suggested that he try some new things and he won't do it. Ah the saga goes on....
Hope you're having fun in Hawaii!

Stopped watching the show because my hubby and I agreed the way they talked to each other and treated each other was awful. It was not edifying TV for me. I am sad for their kids that they have to endure media scurtiny of their parents' screw ups. Life is hard enough on kids these days without that added to their psychological baggage.

I can't help but be curious about the affairs, but I wish I wasn't.

I watch Gilmore Girls, all seven seasons, plus the special features, on DVD, all the time. I'll never stop!

Reximus, you get the award for the funniest comment. For someone who is not "invested," you sure soundest invested!

I have no comment on the TV show/Hollywood celeb matters, all I have to say is that you Warners are all HILARIOUS!!! Braden and I LOVE to read your blogs and comments...it's our comic relief for the day! (Ashley I do peek in on you from Kendall's blog, and I laugh everytime Rex or Linda comment)
