Good-bye Grandma Warner

Grandma with Ryan circa 2008

I am putting my Disneyland post on hold for the moment to say good-bye to my Grandma Warner. She passed away this morning.

About three weeks ago, I took lunch up to her house. It was no small feet to get my kids to three different friend's houses and pick up lunch and haul Buster but I am SO glad I did. I got to have a really nice lunch with her. That was the last time I saw her.

She was my last grandparent to go. I loved Grandma Warner because she always made me feel so good about myself. She thought I was the best dresser, and the best mom and are you ready for this--the best cook! Sam always laughed how she called me a "natural born cook." He was like "Are we talking about the same person?" Grandma also thought Sam was so good looking and told me again at lunch that she thought Sam was such a handsome guy!

My grandma was classy and kind and always interested in other people. She has been sick with diabetes for as long as I can remember but she never talked about it. She liked to hear about what my kids were doing and what was new with me.

My grandpa passed away a month ago and I don't think it is any coincidence that they died so close together. They always wanted to go together and I knew she wouldn't stick around very long without him. Theirs was an amazing love story and I'm so happy they are reunited.

I recently read a quote by Stephen Hawking where essentially he said that a belief in the afterlife or Heaven is only a fairytale for people who are scared of the dark. I could not disagree more. I have an absolute belief in Heaven and life beyond the grave. There is no doubt in my mind that my grandma returned to Heavenly Father and had a joyful reunion with my grandpa. I'm so thrilled that she is finally released from this body that has given her so much pain and suffering. I know that one day she will be resurrected and given her body back in its perfect form. I am so grateful to have the peace that this knowledge brings me.

That is so sweet that they died just a month apart! May we all be that lucky!

Both Grandpa & Grandma died of heart problems. . .Grandpa died of congestive heart failure, and grandma simply died (6 wks later) of a broken heart.
Yes, I have NO DOUBT that they are together again already and as far as that (lame) quote goes. . .yes, I too, am "afraid of the dark" -- the dark that is opposite of light, and opposite of heaven.
Thanks for the sweet post, Brookie!

I'm so glad you took lunch to her and were able to visit with her before she died, and what a blessing that she didn't have to live long without her husband.

I'm cracking up at your "churchy stuff" label for this post.

You are so lucky you got one last visit with her. So, so lucky.

I'm sorry for your loss. Now it's my turn to pray for you and your family, which I will do. :)

Chuche and I have planned to either go the same day--or within two weeks of each other--at a nice old age. Your Grandparents nearly did just that and it's a beautiful thing to think of them united again.

This was very nice and all so true--love that part about her complimenting your outfits. She was always telling me I was dressed so "smart." It is great that you got to take her lunch. I thought several times after Grandpa died that I should send her flowers (Grandpa's bday, Mother's Day) but I didn't do it. I thought I'd wait a little bit longer. I wish I had done it.

I am sorry for your family's loss--I am sure you will all miss her! But I am also grateful that we know where she is and that she is with your grandpa.

Bittersweet. I am so sorry, Brooke. But second your thoughts on the beauty of a plan that lets us be together forever. Hugs!

Saying goodbye to someone we love is always hard...it's so comforting to know that we will be with them again.

Sorry for your loss Brooke. Their story reminds me of The Notebook, they just could not live without each other, how romantic.

She was a great lady but clearly not an authority in spotting culinary experts or handsome men.

There is a Subway at 2885 S. Highland Drive that should work this Saturday.

I'm so sorry--Ashley told me earlier this week.

I'm glad they will be together again. I'm sure he gave her a big smooch when he saw her. I love what your mom said!

Glad you were able to make it up for one last lunch. Very sweet, and well timed.

I'm sorry about your Grandma's passing. It is hard to lose your last Grandparent. They seem like they'd be around forever.

I agree on your thoughts about Heaven. Aren't we glad we have that to hold on to!
