Backhanded Compliment
After my barbell class at the gym today, a girl approached me and said "I loved standing behind you in class."
I wasn't sure what she was getting at, but I was sure a compliment was coming...maybe she loved my outfit, maybe she thought I had great form and liked following me, maybe she even thought I had a great caboose.
Nope. None of those. She said "I loved standing behind you because I knew I wasn't the whitest person in the class." She then walked away.
Thanks...I guess.

What a bizarre thing for someone to say! Why in the world did she feel the need to share that with you?
Aaaa....yeah. What was that about? She was just jealous of your great height, gorgeous workout clothes, your beautiful bangs, and your ability to rock the barbell class.
BTW, had a hilarious dream involving you as a figure skating Cinderella in a musical at Brighton. I'll email you the details. Too funny not to share. It was so real, too.
Seriously! People suck sometimes. I have had comments like that before. I was wearing a yellow dress at church once, someone came up to me and proceeded to tell me how much she hated the color yellow and that she would never buy something yellow. Then asked me if she could borrow my dress for her brothers wedding because she was supposed to wear yellow and she did not own any yellow. Seriously!
People are just too classy!
Looks like I need to come to weight-lifting class with you so that bizarro woman can see just how white a person can be.
She's just jealous (of all the other things you mentioned.) If she stands right behind you, you can always, "toot and lift!"
Mom is hilarious.
"Well, I'm so glad you told me, because now I know I'm not the biggest ________ in the class."
I am just jealous that you get to attend a barbell class! Can't wait to see you and your smokin' bangs!
Ask Jill Barlow what Katie Gee said to me a month or so ago in church and you will feel better. Anytime you are feeling too white, feel free to come stand by me.
This is hilarious, and the same reason I married my husband.
bahahaha! it could have been worse...
People can be so weird!
People are stupid!
HAHAHAHAHA.
Maybe she's the one who refers to you as a Booty Meister.
That is so strange that someone would even say that!!
I just posted my own version of a backhanded compliment (not as funny as your gym buddy of course ;-)
ok, i must say ..it's kind of funny! definitely not something you should verbalize to someones face, but funny....only b/c it reminds of the many tan lotions you so diligently used in college!!!! s
such great memories in jamestown 12 i might add!
What the??? Seriously, people are weird. But... I feel guilty not admitting that I've put my foot in my mouth plenty of times.
