Club Phat

Buster

So Buster is 9 months old and he isn't the only one with a little extra chub around here. I still have 10 pounds (15 cough cough) to lose to get back to my normal weight. Usually, I'm not an all or nothing gal. I believe moderation in all things. But guess what? The weight hasn't been coming off and I'm tired of not wearing my normal clothes.

Last Sunday night, my friend Mandee emailed me about a Biggest Loser type competition called Club Phat that started the next day. And I agreed to it for several reasons.

1. I've got a solid 10 pounds to lose.

2. What I've been doing ain't working.

3. There is prize money at the end...the kitty may well get up to like 400 bucks.

Also, I like that this competition is not about just weight loss. You can't starve yourself and win this thing. You get points each day for doing a bunch of healthy stuff like:

no soda/no alcohol
no treats
getting 7 hours of sleep
no eating within 2 hours of bed
taking a multivitamin
drinking 48 oz of water a day
eating three servings of fruits
eating three servings of veggies
a point for each half hour you work out up to 3 points a day

You also get three cheat points a week to use if you mess up on one of the above things except you can't use cheat points for working out. I messed up twice and ate within two hours of bed.

At the end, the person who loses the greatest percentage of their body weight in addition to having the most points wins.

I already work out about four days a week but I've had to kick that up to 6. I also hate veggies but I'm not about to give up a point a day for that (did i mention how competitive I am?) So Sam has been buying me these big relish trays. I also chug V8s to get a couple servings there.

So here is the deal. I've been on the program a week and the first few days were the worst. I thought the no diet coke thing would be the hardest but I was wrong.

The no treats has damn near killed me.

But you know what? That is what is going to make me lose the weight. I will never O.D. on real food. Until I started this, I didn't realize how much garbage I was eating during the day. In fact, now that I'm doing this, I have struggled to find real food to eat. My biggest temptation came Friday night when I took my kids to Mrs Field's at the Mall. Oh how I LOVE those little nibblers with a big Diet Coke. That was a tough night but I pulled through. I have already lost a few pounds.

I even worked out every day this week except today (Sunday). I'm determined to win this thing. To be honest, if I lose the weight, I will feel like a winner regardless of the money.

I promise not to talk about this all the time. Is there anything worse than hearing about someone else's diet or workout plan? In the meantime, I'm going to go chew a piece of gum and look at all the veggies I don't want to eat...5 more weeks...

ah Brooke... I remember when I was told I better eat real food because my nursing babies would suffer from a chocolate od. So I did, and I gained weight. Just give up the real food, and eat what your heart desires. It is eating both that makes you gain weight!

I am going to post some veggie dishes soon (maybe tonight if peeps stop requesting me to help with their homework!) that will rock your boat. Ok it wont rock your boat but it will kick along those points for you. Also this club makes me want to pass out with all its rules and requirements ...but GOOD LUCK!

I spent a large part of Saturday talking diet and exercise with Ashley. I'm going on Slimfast, but subbing in Carnation Instant Breakfast for the shakes because it has the same calories, and tastes way better. A few snacks, sushi for dinner, and working out. That's my plan. And I have WAY more than 15 lbs to lose.

Good luck. Money and a hot bod--good incentive!

I've got no baby for an excuse. I really need to kick my butt into gear and do it already.

And yet? I write this with a cookie in one hand, and a diet coke in the other. Sigh...

What a great belly on that kid.

Your diet sounds like a good venture! I think treats would be the hardest thing for me to give up too!

What a dream it would be to only have 10-15 pounds to lose!! Let my patheticness be a motivating factor for you!

As I was fasting yesterday I was disturbed by how many times my instinct was to grab a little treat here and there. I didn't do it, but I thought hey maybe that's why I'm such a sow!

Good luck to you!

Good for you! I agree on how you realize how much you snack during the day--when you are home--the food is just there. Good luck!!

Way to go! When you have worked off your 10-15 lbs, can you just keep going and work my 10-15 off for me? I mean once you are already in the groove it would be way easier for you to keep going than for me to actually give up treats. Hey I'd even work out a deal to eat your veggies for you.

Wow...so impressed. I fail so quickly at stuff like this. I could do without DC if I had to, but the treat thing is way tricky. Especially with kids....and valentines...and my mother (the chocolate queen). Good luck. Maybe I'll look into this because I'm in the same boat.

That picture of Buster is too cute! Can I ask where you had it taken? The first few days are the worst but once you start seeing results its always easier to eat healthy. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat...except my baby is 13 months! I need to get a move on. I'm inspired by you.

Actually, I ended up with 36 points- I forgot to factor in my cheat points yesterday. Ashley was right- to give up treats and DC at the same time is complete torture. It's the DC that's killing me. KILL-ING ME. And going to the gym. I just need it to be 50 degrees so I can run outside.

Good for you Brooke--don't know if I could give up my DC--that is my treat. :( My sister got me hooked on snacking on red peppers and hummus. I found some 100 calorie snack packs of hummus at Costco and my family loves them! It helps me to eat more vegees. :)

That's impressive! When I'm trying to lose weight I have to allow myself a treat everyday--I just limit it to 150 calories. I think it makes me less moody and angry! And Buster is so cute--chubby babies are the best!

You are hilarious. I was thinking of picking up parts of this non-diet, but honestly, I just don't have the willpower. Really, I endorse "moderation in all things" because of that. But reading this has motivated me to make some changes of my own...like working out. Never do it. I should start.

Good luck! And I am soooo jealous of that gorgeous pic of Buster! The pic--and the baby--are adorable!

How did I not see this post til now? That is the cutest picture of Buster EVER. I don't need to beat the dead diet horse here in a comment.

That is very awesome. And I am majorly proud of you for not drinking Diet Coke. I was ready for you to say, "I'm prepared to lose points for that every day." If you need a treat, try blending some milk with some frozen strawberries. Counts as a fruit and it tastes like a milkshake, without any guilt or cheating. That (often times with banana instead of strawberries, though I do add chocolate syrup to that) is my go-to.

As an aside, I hope you blew that picture of Buster up to poster size and hung it above your fireplace.

Good luck!

Is there anything like this going on in the future? If you hear, let me know, I'd really like to get involved! I like the points idea especially because the BL comps I've been in are straight weight loss and we all know how unhealthy that can get...LOVE BUSTER! MUAH!
