Indulge Me

I've been dreading doing this post because I know no one really wants to hear someone else's weight loss story. Sam, you can leave now. He is soooo tired of hearing me talk about Club Phat. I hope this post isn't going to sound preachy--Luckily for you, I've had two weeks since Club Phat ended to fall back into my bad eating habits so I really can't say too much.

I wish I could tell you the six weeks went by quickly and that it was easy and the weight just fell off. But that's not true. I worked like a dog and there was nothing easy about it. I didn't miss a single day of working out in six weeks (except Sundays.) I tried to go to the gym every day at 9:00 am but sometimes I had to go when it was completely inconvenient (like at 2:00 in the afternoon or 11:00 at night.) I went when I was sick and I went when I didn't feel like it. I tried new classes and pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

I didn't drink soda. I ate my #%#%(@@$ veggies! And worst of all, I only had a handful of treats in that entire time. Sometimes I was hungry when I went to bed. Sometimes not having treats made me really grumpy. Long story short, it was hard. To lose weight, you have to get sweaty and uncomfortable. The process is unglamorous but I did it.

The very hardest moment of the entire six weeks was standing at Mrs. Field's cookies with my kids and not getting a cookie and a diet coke. I swear those cookies are laced with heroin--they are so addicting.

I lost 13 pounds and I'm wearing my normal clothes again. I am happier than I've been in a long time.

Some tips: I believe in rewarding yourself along the way. I bought new work-out shoes and work-out tops. I am a big believer in shelling out the dough to get cute workout clothes. If you don't feel cute at the gym, you won't go. I also believe the right gear makes all the difference. I started Spinning at my gym and bought myself some cycling shoes and padded shorts. My bum was much happier with the new shorts!

Since I couldn't eat treats, sometimes I would buy myself a really great lunch--like a salad at Rumbi's. That helped me not feel deprived. I also stocked up on Sobe beverages (low calorie drinks)--having one at night made me feel like I was having a treat.

I also think weight-training is the most important thing you can do to change your body. I had to do barbell classes because there is no way I would push myself on my own with the weights.

I ended up coming in second place in the contest and I won $125.00. I was thrilled I got a little spending cash to get a new outfit--I will show you what I bought in my next post. The winner only lost 8 pounds which made me feel extra good. I knew I worked hard and I'm proud of myself.

Now, I promise to never talk about Club Phat again.

Brooke- you look amazing- Congratulations! I am impressed because I know you're like me and love your treats. I hope after this baby I can get around to doing a 6 week thing. It makes a huge difference in mood and emotions when you feel like you look good and feel better physically. Once it's off, is it just easy to maintain? That would be nice. Great work- can't wait to see what you got yourself!

So proud of you! It is hard to lose weight--I think especially when it is a realatively small amount. It is those last "5" pounds that are so hard!! Good for you!

My sister sent me your blog because of your awesome Bachelor posts and I have to say that I think you're a really cool girl.

Baby, you look FABULOUS!! You really do! I've got to get on Club Phat - only I don't know that I care enough any more to really commit. I'm proud of you!

BTW - YOU should be modeling the swimsuits in the last post!

You look incredible! Amazing! Extremely jealous......but you earned it. I don't know if I would have the will power. Congrats on 2nd place.

I am jealous, inspired, and also would like to go eat a cookie now. I have SO been looking for something to reinspire me. I am in a lull after winning a weight loss competition a few months ago...I NEED INSPIRATION! Thanks for being that. Now I must click your link and find out what the heck club phat is. P.S. You are SO stinkin hot! Sam better tell you that EVERY DAY.

Oops...me again. Feel free to talk about Club Phat all you want. Maybe it will finally inspire me.

That's awesome Brooke! I told my friends that were doing it too that you were going to win! So I wasn't too far off. 2nd place is nothing to sneeze at :) You look fabulous and yeah for fitting into your own clothes!! That 's a great feeling. It's almost as good as getting a whole new wardrobe...almost. Thanks for the post! I was dying to hear how it went!

Way to go Brooke! That is seriously impressive, especially that you didn't drink soda the whole time! I'm glad you got such great results and that you came in 2nd place, how satisfying!

Good job Brooke. I just have one question, and possibly one follow up. When you say no soda, does that include Diet Coke? And if yes, then how on earth were you able to kick the black acid?

brooke said...

No soda including Diet Coke Cam. You know what, that was easy. If you drink water when you want a diet coke you realize you were just thirsty. However, the no treats was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

I don't know what you were talking about, this post is fine and everyone loves to hear about someone else's weight loss. You should've mentioned that you lost, what, 13 pounds! That makes it all the more impressive. Your long sleeved workout top in the first photo is cute, but what about the heat?!?

You look great, you did before and I'm not just saying that. By the way, your legs- wow! I've always been envious of those legs.

I totally agree about the workout clothes. You have to have workout clothes you love to put on, and once they are on you may as well go to the gym. Can't waste cute clothes to sit around in at home!

Great job!

Ashley,

I was on my way to the gym. I would never work out in that...I had a tank on underneath.

I'm so proud of you Brooke, and you look amazing. I need to do Club Phat again, but for reals this time. Maybe I should just hire you to be my trainer.

way to go! 13 lbs is a lot! those are some great tips, too. if you punish yourself too much, you avoid the process entirely. giving up treats is so hard!

You are looking awesome! Congrats. I love your workout outfit! I need to get some new ones, after loosing 70 lbs- buying new clothes is hard but I the last time I ran I had to hold my pants up the whole time.

Yeah you rock! Congrats on your Silver Medal (and I cant wait to see your new reward outfit).I always have nice workout clothes thanks to you (its so true that you work out better and more in cute clothes). Good girl on the veggies, you love em now don't you ;-) You look like a model in the first pic (that Sam is a lucky guy).

Still at Lifetime? What classes did you like? I have been thinking of changing it up some and adding some classes.

Brooke, you look great and you go ahead and talk about it all you want!

Kelly,

I love total conditioning--probably the hardest class at the gym. I also love the barbell classes and I'm learning to love cycle.

I am also taking a fitness pilates class (that my three year old calls "potties class" that is kicking my trash---I have no core strength.)

I also like the strike classes (kickboxing with weighted gloves.) I honestly try to do a different class every day to shake things up and avoid boredom. I would love to do a class with you and Rebes. If you ever want to hit one on a Saturday morning--email me!

That is amazing Brooke! Good for you! It's taken me since October to lose 13 lbs! (Of course, I had to loose those same 13 lbs twice thanks to Christmas vacation!) It is a pain to do the right things, I'm proud of you!

I just had a baby 4 weeks ago and need some motivation and realism to get me started on losing the baby-weight, and this post was just perfect for that!! I especially love when you said "To lose weight, you have to get sweaty and uncomfortable".... so true, but sometimes we forget and we want to hardly make any changes and we want it to be easy! You look great! Your blog is cute!
