My Mom

My mom with a very fat Ryan.

I have gone on record before saying what a wonderful grandma my mom is. Anyone who knows my mom knows what I am talking about. Not only does she babysit regularly, she is the grandma that goes out and makes a snowman with my kids. She is the grandma that dyes Easter eggs and does her own egg hunt for them. She is the grandma that takes Luke to Cowabunga Bay and actually goes down the slides with him because I don't want to. She is also the grandma that plans princess days and has special themed rooms in her home for grandma sleepovers.

She is a wondeful grandma, but she is also the world's best mother. This year, she gave me the greatest gift. I am already crying as I type this. When my water broke unexpectedly, I knew I only needed to make one phone call and I wouldn't have to worry about my kids for a minute. She dropped everything and raced out to my house and basically didn't leave for two weeks. What makes this extraordinary is that she was supposed to move to her new home this weekend and has put all of that on hold so that she could take care of my other kids.

She made it possible for me to be in the hospital nearly full time with my newborn, when she knew I couldn't leave him. I never got calls about not knowing what to feed my kids or dress them in, even though I left her with an empty refridgerator and a pile of dirty laundry.

In true Linda fashion, she ran out to Gymboree and bought him a preemie wardrobe. Here he is in one of his new outfits. He really is tiny:

She even made time to come up to the NICU three different times to be with me late at night as I fed Mitchell. Sometimes you just need your mom and I was so grateful to have her there. If I live to be 100, I don't think I will ever receive a greater gift than what she gave me the last two weeks. Thanks mom. I love you. Happy Mother's Day!

Sigh. I hate it when you show me up. All true, all true. You are lucky to have her so close--though I know she would fly (and has flown) out here at the drop of a hat when needed.

What a sweet tribute! I'm glad you have her to help- what would we do without our moms? Incidentally, I'm pretty sure she hasn't aged a day since she used to come & do Jazzercise at Canyon View

Awww--so cute. Gotta love moms, and all they do. And, as you know, you have an exceptional mom! Just look at her daughters. ;)

Cutest preemie outfit. I just want to eat him up. Can I make time go backwards so Macy is that little again?

Linda is the best. She takes care of everyone! I can only hope to be so great when I "grow up".

P.s. How ecstatic that you NEVER have to be pregnant again?

What a wonderful mother you have, and she looks like she could be your sister! It's amazing to me how many grandmothers aren't taking advantage of being great mothers and granddaughters these days, so it is so great and inspiring to read about one who is.

If I may add, your mom is one of the greatest moms I know, and she did many mothery things for me, who didn't have a mom, even though she has four kids of her own. If you remember, you once gave me a pair of pants that someone decided I had stolen from them. I got called to the office and all that. Linda called the school and gave them the what-for on my behalf. My dad just shrugged when I told him what had happened, but Linda went forward and stood up for me. I've talked about it a million times because it meant everything to me. She is someone I count myself lucky to have had in my life, too. You are very lucky, Brooke, and I'm so glad you know just how lucky you are.

As an aside, your sweet baby is adorable. I just want to snuggle that cute little guy.

So glad you have your mom close by. That is such a blessing!! There is something about leaving your kids with mom...they automatically know what to do.

The pictures of him coming home are darling! What a cute new baby!

Cannot believe you have 4!

You do have a great Mom! It's so nice to know that if there is an emergency, there is someone close that can help. You are lucky. Little Mitchell is sooo tiny and cute in his preemie outfits.

Aren't moms the best. I hope my kids say that about me when I am a grandma.

OHMYGOSH - I'm unworthy of all the praise! But thank you, everyone!! I'm overwhelmed! In case I go totally "luney tunes" before I die, save some of this to read at my funeral.
BTW - Grandma duty is the BEST!!

She really is the bomb, and such a pretty grandma too - since I remember {circa the seventh grade} she's looked exactly the same :) And you look fabulous and so happy Brooke, I am so glad to read that all is well. All the very best to you!

Ooh, this is so beautiful! You are a lucky woman!

It makes me excited to have my baby and have my mom come help me take care of her. (I can wait though, seriously. I'm not ready yet.)

Congrats and Happy late Mother's Day on bringing Buster home! You look amazing.

Hey I hope all is going well in Baby Buster World. Is Ryan trying to eat him? That was Bears favourite trick to Lulu when we bought her home ;-)
Thanks for your comment... you are a cautionary tale ... after your pedicure gone bad post every-time I get a pedicure I watch very closely what the lady is doing with the BLADE.
Hope all is great (and the meals are still coming thick and fast from members of your church).
