I Got You Babe

Salt Lake Temple 1998

Sam and I got married 10 years ago today. I can hardly believe how fast those 10 years have gone. Then I realize we've been through 2 apartments, 1 home, 7 cars, 3 kids, 4 degrees (2 undergrad, 2 law) and a bunch of hairstyles, and I guess it does feel like 10 years.

I don't know how I was so smart (0r so lucky) at 21 to have found Sam and somehow convinced him to marry me, but to this day, I consider it the best decision of my life (next to growing out my bangs!)

My brother's wedding 2001

We met on a warm spring afternoon in front of the Harold B. Lee library on BYU campus. Sam had snuck out of work and was enjoying a smoothie with his friend Nate's fiance Amy Bagley. Bagley was a friend of mine since kindergarten and she introduced us. After that, Sam called and asked me out. However, I thought it was another Sam I had already been out with on a horrible date and so I made up an excuse and turned him down. Later, I ran into Sam's best friend, Nate and he asked me why I turned Sam down. I figured out it was the new Sam and told Nate to have him call me again. Luckily he did and we finally went out.

Being obnoxious at my cousin's wedding 2006

On our first date, I was in tears from laughing so hard. I knew I would marry him. He was the funniest guy I had ever met. We went out four more times that same week. Sam and I grew up in the same stake (even though we never met growing up) and we knew a lot of the same people and places. He felt like home to me. We got married 9 months later.

Our marriage somehow survived the two of us attending law school together. I was Sam's TA for his property class. He used to joke that he was sleeping with the TA and still got a 3.0 in property.

Celebrating my 30th birthday in NYC 2007 (we celebrated Sam's 30th at Chili's)

Sam is an incredible dad, which is just a bonus since I wasn't even thinking of that 10 years ago. He has a very dry sense of humor, he is very generous, handsome and smart. He is my best friend. He has never complained about going to work each day so I can stay home. Most importantly, he makes me laugh everyday. Here's to many more years together babe!

Happy anniversary! Seriously, cutest pics. Your wedding pic reminds me of the pic I have when we were kids at your dress up party. You always loved the gloves! Hope your day was great. Thanks for inviting us the other night...my kids had so much fun.

I love the wedding picture. It's so classy...you can't tell if it is 1958 or 1998. So perfect.

Happy Anniversary!

Loved walking down memory lane with you! I celebrated my 10th anniversary back in August...19 years - it is amazing isn't it!

Thanks for the post Bear! I can't believe it has been 10 years since we emerged from the temple (me with a large amount of concealer above my left eye).

Remember that time you decided to go on a mission while we were dating so you could get rid of me? That was pretty funny. I think Rex still has your partially filled out mission papers.

I will forever be indebted to Bags for making the connection. The best part of our initial meeting was that I was on the clock, making $5/hour.

Remember our first date? We attended the charity basketball game between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers at Hillcrest High School in March 1998. In my defense, the tickets were a gift. It was a totally WT event. Tube tops, cut offs and nachos as far as the eye could see. Then we met Amy and Nate for some pizza at the Pie. I still remember walking across the parking lot of Hillcrest High, thinking you were the one. Who else can say that Emmitt Smith and Terrell Owens were at their first date?

Remember our first kiss? I think it was at the Madsen residence.

The best memory of law school? Definitely going to Phoenix for the Bruce Springsteen concert. I still use the Property TA joke whenever I speak to students about law school...it is gold (and true).

We have come a long way from our basement apartment in Provo. I want to give a shout out to Chance and Carol. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am lucky to have you, and the rugs are very fortunate to have you as a mom.

I feel terrible that I didn't even wish you "happy anniversary!" yesterday!! Happy Belated anniversary!! Hopefully I can make it up to you by babysitting while you celebrate in Hawaii in a couple of months!
Sam - you are perfect for Brooke and our family - I've loved you since the first time you showed up for dinner bearing a fruit pizza that you had made yourself!
Here's to another 60 years!!

That comment by Sam is too cute! Did he really think of all those things himself, or did you leave a detailed list?
If it's the former, he rocks!

Happy Anniversary! I wonder how the 'Bad Sam' fared? I'm sure not as good as you two!

Since when is full on making out in front of the temple obnoxious? We always do that. ;)

P.S. You made the right decision on the bangs. Those things are so hard to maintain...better to let them grow on out.

Happy Anniversary.

And I just wanted to say that you are the funniest person that I don't know. We should meet at Kneaders for breakfast sometime.

I can't believe it's been 10 years! When I first met Sam my first thought was - please let him have a brother! You two are perfect together. One of my fondest memories of Kelly's wedding is you and Sam dancing until you had to wring out your clothes. We love you both and wish you many, many more years together.

Happy Belated Anniversary! You are both awsome. I am glad you posted this because I have often thought Sam is the best. I remember seeing him at church sitting next to Linda and putting his arm around her. I am impressed that he calls her mom. I think that shows so much respect. If he respects his mother in law like that...he must be gold for his wife! We have appreciated all he has done for us. You did good!
