The Reason for the Season

Lately, I've been feeling a bit sorry for myself for some really dumb reasons--like the fact that I can't do the home improvement projects that I want to do to make my house cute.

Tonight, I slammed my finger while putting away my Kitchen-Aid mixer. Like usual, I was moving too fast and trying to do too much at once. It felt like I slammed my finger in a car door and I literally cried like a baby.

All three of my kids gathered around me and hugged and kissed me. It melted my heart.

While I was curled up feeling sorry for myself, Sam turned on Mr. Krueger's Christmas for the kids. As I was watching, I was reminded of how much I love my Savior Jesus Christ and how much he has done for me. If you haven't seen that show, please get your hands on a copy. I think it is even on You Tube. I know it was made in the '70s and it is totally old school but I love the scene where he visits baby Jesus in the manger. It will change your Christmas season. As I was watching, I looked around at my cute kids watching so intently with the sweetest looks on their faces. Ryan would make a "meow" sound every time the cat came on the screen. I realized all at once that I am so blessed and I have been given more than I ever deserve--I have everything I could ever want with my own family.

Just a cheesy Christmas post but I didn't want to forget how I felt tonight in the midst of the harried, crazy Christmas season.

I had a moment just like that on Saturday. I had just been giving my kids the 3rd degree about fighting in the car on the way to get the Christmas tree and it was freezing and I was grouchy. Then as we were searching for the perfect tree, the Kenny Loggins song "Home for The Holidays" (a favorite of mine) came on and snow flurries began to fall. I watched my kids running through the trees and I realized this is one of those moments you see on the movies and it is mine! I have it all and this is a Christmas moment I should never forget!

You dont know me but I came across your blog by who knows how and I just love to check in now. I love all your posts and feel like I can relate to a bunch of them. I really enjoy all your cute comments. I think we both live in the same area so I have probally ran into you before and havent even known it. I too love Mr Krugers Christmas and it always makes the Christmas season special. I can remember watching it as a kid. Thanks again for all your cute posts. P.S.You looked great for your husbands company party and its amazing how hard we always are on ourselves when truly we are the only one that notices sometimes we are just silly. Congrats on the Baby. I have three precious little ones too.

Funny you would post about Mr. Kruger's Christmas Brookie...I just put it on my blog 2 days ago! I make my kids watch it EVERY year, they LOVE it. I grew up watching it every Christmas season in the Washington DC temple visitor center, it is one my favorites as a child.

Ahh...go see Blind Side and you'll have even more grateful moments. Even though it's not a Christmas movie, it totally brings the spirit of Christmas.

I love it! I know I sound like a creepy grandma (creepy bc I am not related to most people upon whose blog I leave such comments as I am about to make) but I can't help but say that someday when your kids are all grown up and you are an old lady like me, this little anecdote will be even more meaningful, and that funny bit about Ryan meowing when the cat appeared will be even more hilarious. And then it will make you really sad bc it is all over, and it went so fast. But at least you will know that you knew what you had and cherished it in the moment. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm with Alexandra -- I'm so glad you are recording your feelings and "everyday" moments like this. (Ryan's meows) I wish I had. . .b/c you forget. You will love going back and reading these things. And I might add that I am so proud of you - this post brought tears to my eyes. I don't take any credit for raising you to be so wonderful, I just thank my Heavenly Father for sending you to me!!

I remember that movie and I love it. I love moments like that in your life that make you take a step back and think about how great your life really is. Hopefully we can think about that this crazy month of December.

I injure myself when rushing around quite often and it's ridiculous. I need to slow down and just be in each moment rather than trying to cram multiple things into every one.

I don't know if I've ever seen that whole movie (how is that possible?) but will definitely get it for us to watch this week.

What a great thought--we all need to take time out and reflect on our Savior and what this season means to us!

you seem like such a great mommy and friend. we all have days like that, but they don't all end as successful as yours.

you should be happy and proud of yourself - you have a lot to be grateful for and good for you for knowing it. not everyone is as smart as you!
